                                                                  The small village of finika is located on the
                                                                northern part of Santorini, 10 kilometers northwest of
                                                                its capital within very close proximity to the beautiful
                                                                settlement of Oia. Unlike Oia, where the houses are built
                                                                right on the Caldera edge, the traditional architecture in
                                                                Finikia is very different. Comprised of small dwellings
                                                                complete with colourful yards, stairs and interesting
                                                                facades, the village’s unique character is very much in
                                                                thanks to its historical relevance. Built around the time
                                                                when the island became prosperous due to its shipping
                                                                industry, the village of Finikia housed the farmers who
                                                                worked on the surrounding vineyards. The large and
                                                                impressive ‘canaves’ type dwellings that we see today
                                                                were also used to store wine and have been dug into the
                                                                volcanic rock, leaving an indelible mark on the special
