Escape THE ART PRIESTESS
DELVE INTO THE MAZE OF THE GRANDEUR OF THE MINOAN ERA AND Having selected to live by the sea and olive trees, Zoie Sgou-
IDENTIFY THE CULTURAL CONNECTION TO THE PRESENT WITH AWE. rou has become an example of what we call “art imitates life”
directing the most successful series and movies set on Crete
Island. She is literally a director of contemporary Cretan life.
Preparing with respect for Victoria Hislop and then the great-
est joy the new serial titled “An August Night”, she continues
her vision for the island as she started it directing her short
films “Yenaris” and “Houhou”. “They were both shot on Crete
Island and with the input of people I love very much.” Agios
Nikolaos is her favorite city after all. “This is the reason why I
chose to live here. There are many hidden corners and differ-
ent for everyone, as they are connected to moments of time
that influenced us in a way.” Follow her tip and find yourself at
“the wonderful route from Elounda to Plaka all the way till that
moment when you cast a glance on Spinalonga.”
It’s a Cretan life: Zoie Sgourou (top right) has loved her everyday experience in Agios Nikolaos discovering villages,
such as Mohlos (bottom right) and meeting with local people (bottom left).
