The island’s volcano - which has left its mark on the island with
its rich mineral deposits - offers visitors the opportunity to see
up close volcanic steam and gases (reaching 100 degrees Celsius)
that it continues to emit. The island’s rich mining history can
also be viewed at the Milos Mining Museum, located in Adamas,
the port of the island, which highlights the rich geological and
mining history of Milos and honors the people who worked for
the exploitation of its mineral wealth. Those people contributed
significantly to the economic and cultural prosperity of the
island in its long and uninterrupted historical course. Today, the

 Sunset views
The view from the Venetian castle of Plaka is the best setting
to enjoy an intensely orange hued Instagramable sunset.
Another option is the church of Panagia Korfiatissa, almost at
the top of the village, behind the central square, which is very
 popular during sunsets.

The famous fishing village, known for its Cycladic ‘syrmata’ or
boat houses is reached by crossing (most often barefoot with
sandals in hand) a small road by the sea. These boat houses
known for their colourful wooden doors and windows built
amphitheatrically on the water’s edge were used by fishermen
to store their boats and have been faithfully restored and
 maintained.
