Embrace the explorer hidden within you and let Algarve be
your compass to an adventurous travel.

 Nature’s realm
When it comes to birdwatching, Algarve is the champion.
Boasting 10 IBAs (Important Bird Areas) and more over
250 species to prove it, it encourages travelers to enter their
untouched world and breathe in the natural vibe. With the most
richly-varied birdlife in Portugal, Algarve lies on the migratory
routes for rare birds from Africa, North America and northern
Europe, including marsh sandpipers, northern pintails, Rüppell’s
vultures and Eurasian dotterels. Take your binoculars and visit
different zones to admire different species all on the same day.

 Sandy paradise
You should head to the easternmost end of Cabanas Island, close
to Cacela Harbour and then take the boat from “Sítio da Fábrica”
(“the site of the factory”) in Cacela Velha to reach the “Maldives”
of Portugal. A thin sandy strip, a deserted and unspoiled beach that
will remind you of the “Blue Lagoon” atmosphere. Praia de Cacela
Velha beach is the gem of the historical town, where you can
admire the bright white houses with their traditional cobalt blue
decoration, surrounded by dry orchards on gentle hills all the way
down to the estuary. The village grew up around a mediaeval noria
and affords a magnificent, lofty view over the Ria Formosa, next to
the D. Paio Peres Correia Fortress. So, let’s dive into history and a
wonderful deep at the same place. A true memorable experience!

 Artisans secrets
Step into a pottery capsule, where talents meet the respectable
tradition of Portuguese art. Distinguished workshops, such as the
Olaria Pirraça, where two generations keep the craft alive are
like open museums for those who want to touch a bit of history
and have a piece of Portugal back home. Master Potter Ezequiel
Campainhas and then his son, Manuel Pirraça elevate pottery to
Algarve’s tradition Hall of Fame. Porches Pottery has also played
a vital role with its founders to have been mentors for many who
followed their path. Patrick Swift and Lima de Freitas, one Irish
and the other Portuguese made their dream true in 1968 creating
a meeting point to demonstrate that old crafts and artistic SHUTTERSTOCK
traditions. Pay a visit to watch the artisans in action and acquire
 a truly unique souvenir.
