the artistic past,
present and future
of the island’s capital
shines brighter than
ever.
in 1952, When MyKoniAn painter Maria igglesi donated to the city the building that today houses
the Municipal Art Gallery of Mykonos, Mykonos town was very different. today, the only thing that
remains the same is the aura of the Art. right in the centre of the town, on Kalogera and Matoyanni
streets, the two halls of the Gallery house exhibitions of paintings, iconography, mosaics, photography
and sculpture. the last few years, an additional space donated by stefanos syriotis on Meletopoulou
street also hosts exhibitions, usually of art objects. this summer, starting at the end of May all the way
to mid-october, the Municipal Art Gallery will host the works of a group of painters from the russian
Academy of Culture and Art as well as foreign artists who have chosen to make Mykonos their home. these
include Luis orozco, Monika Derpapa, richard James north and many more. But there’s also up-and-
