The Mountain
Melodist of Kos.
I n 2018, Konstantinos Sofikitis and his broth-
er Petros, started Historiography of the Ae-
gean, a photographic and cinematographic
journey focusing on unpublished stories of peo-
ple, endangered professions, forgotten customs
and traditions, and stories of generosity, love,
heartbreak, survival, and humanity.
The purpose of their journey was to understand
and observe Greece and its people as they really
are. An observation that requires humility, re-
spect, time, and a genuine curiosity for knowl-
edge. Because “people are neither a museum spe-
cies nor attractions.”
Thus begins the story of Marabou Project. In a
few months, an effort of 6 years of recording the
70 inhabited islands of the Aegean will be com-
pleted and presented through a scrapbook and
final documentary. The combination of verbal
and visual narratives, both in the illustrated al-
bum and in the travelling exhibition, intends
to keep the memory of the images alive forever.
